The future of telecommunications involves IP technology. This statement convinces more and more companies, which have opted for IP telephony or VoIP for their corporate communications<\/strong> in the last decade. However, some organizations are still reluctant to adopt these solutions due to a series of “false beliefs” analyzed below:<\/p>\n

  1. “IP telephony is only for saving costs”<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u00a0<\/strong>There exists the idea that the only advantage offered by IP telephony is getting very competitive prices<\/strong> in long distance calls, but, in fact, this is just one of its benefits. Thanks to the implementation of Voice over IP organizations, regardless of their size and the sector in which they operate, can benefit from a number of high value-added features<\/strong> that are suited to their needs at all times, with a reduced cost and investment.<\/p>\n

    1. \u0093The audio quality is not good\u0094<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      It is possible that 10 or 15 years ago this were true, but technology has evolved since then. IP telephony allows the voice signal to travel over the Internet through shared channels. To do so, information is divided into data packages<\/strong> that have their own source header and destination, where they are reordered. To ensure that these packages arrive in the right way, thus avoiding possible incidents such as latency, jitter<\/strong> or the incorrect arriving at their destination, it is only needed to prioritize voice traffic on the network, ahead of data.<\/p>\n

      In IP telephony, voice quality also depends on the compression of the used codec<\/strong>. When compression rises, bandwidth usage decreases, but audio quality will be lower too. Using G.729 codec, a good balance in\u00a0bandwidth consumption is achieved. Thus, bandwidth usage is high, while it audio quality is higher than when using traditional telephony.<\/p>\n

        IP telephony solutions don’t necessarily mean discarding the existing infrastructure<\/strong> .
