As every year, Accenture has published a new prediction of the technological trends that will shape the future of new digital companies over the next three years. Under the title “Technology for People: The Age of the Intelligent Enterprise”, the Accenture Technology Vision 2017 reports that over the next few years, people will have the power to shape and apply technology to create positive change, improve lives and transform business and society.
This is how the study of 2017 is the continuation and verification of the central theme of the previous edition, “People First: Primacy of People in the Digital Age”, a focus on the importance of the human element in technological advancement, and “how technology can increase and enhance our human skills to listen more closely to customers and employees, connect to them on their own terms and partner with them to achieve personal goals.”
The Accenture report concludes that digital transformation is a process of human empowerment in which technology adjusts people by giving them control over their own destiny. Thus, it emphasizes how the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) or Big Data, is radically transforming areas that we previously believed impossible to digitize. As an example, it quotes the evolution of the video, and how now people can transmit what they want when they want thanks to services like Periscope or Facebook.
For this “Technology Vision of 2017”, Accenture has surveyed more than 5,400 business and IT executives across businesses around the world. Of these, 86% state that while individual technologies are rapidly advancing, it is the multiplier effect of these technologies that is creating innovative breakthroughs.
Based on data from these interviews, Accenture concludes that the first step toward empowering people is to provide the technologies that work best with them. Based on this, it describes three pillars for people to take control of technology to improve their lives and society in general:
- Technology must be adapted to people; its purpose must be to serve people, not to exist because of them.
- Companies must adopt people’s goals as their own goals so that the company and client are true partners; the old goal of sales must be replaced by the goals that customers and employees have for themselves.
- Technology helps people as they become more human; is an agent of change, and can now train people interactively and collaboratively, according to the needs and expectations of each individual.
Finally, the report develops 5 emerging and essential trends for business success in today’s digital economy:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) will revolutionize the way companies get information from customers and interact with them.
- Technology design will continue to learn from human behavior and adapt to it.
- Together with platform strategies, organizations move towards digital ecosystems that are transforming the way they offer value.
- The need and talent search is replacing the traditional hierarchies by independent workers.
- Companies are not only creating new products and services, they are also shaping new digital industries.
