Antonio Lorenzo scoops the 1st Edition of the Masvoz Journalism and Telecommunications Prize

The journalist Antonio Lorenzo, a writer who specialises in technology and telecommunications for the El Economista newspaper, has been awarded the 1st edition of the Masvoz Journalism and Telecommunications Prize that aimed to encourage and support the dissemination of knowledge in the field of telecommunications. The jury considered his report ‘Are you nomophobic?’ (¿Eres nomofóbico?’) to be the best piece from 136 entries submitted to the competition.

The awards ceremony was held yesterday, 21 November, an event that took place in the Moritz Factory in Barcelona, and professionals from the journalism, communications and telecommunications sectors attended.

A Prize of €1,000 for the winner, and a commemorative diploma for the other 9 finalists, were awarded to professionals that, in the judgement of the jury, have stood out in the dissemination of journalistic works about issues related to the field of telecommunications from a global perspective, innovation applied to telecommunications, and cloud computing and its different uses.

The 9 finalists to receive a commemorative diploma were: Elena Arrieta from Expansión; Miguel Ángel Uriondo from Actualidad Económica; José Luis de Vicente from ElDiario.es; Mario Jiménez from Personal Computer & Internet; Xavier Jiménez from El Periódico de Catalunya; Raquel Pico from Zmart.Co; Elías Notario from ElDiario.es; Franc Carreras and Xavier Vidal from the program La Twitertulia on Onda Cero; and Marta Peirano from ElDiario.es.

The jury was made up of acclaimed professionals from the world of business, telecommunications and journalism: Joan Solé, Dean of the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers of Catalonia; Cristóbal Escoda, Director and Founder of NAE Consulting; José Luis Díaz Prieto, Director of Audio-visual Marketing and Sales of the International Book Club; Carme Jané, an expert technology journalist from the El Periódico de Catalunya newspaper; and Xavier Blasco, Masvoz CFO.

To make their final decision, the jury members considered factors such as the quality of the information, the reliability and the range of the sources used, the originality of the piece’s focus, the level of social interest, and the difficulty of preparing the piece.
