A recent report shows that the BYOD trend, so far associated with large integrated by more than five thousand employees companies are waking up every day also increased interest in companies with fewer than 25 employees.

BYOD: concern for security is not a matter of size

BYOD is one of the latest trends and successful business landscape. The letters stand for the English translation “Bring Your Own Device”, and basically is that employees can use a single smartphone, tablet or computer professional purposes as both labor. This brings benefits for both companies in terms of cost savings and productivity, and workers, who feel more free, happy and committed reasons for its consolidated progress in recent years.

The latest study by company Kaspersky Lab, “Security Technologies for mobile and BYOD,” shows that the degree of penetration of BYOD in the companies participating in this survey already reaches 66%, which is not strange when we talk about big companies more than 5.000 employees. But now the novelty is that in this study have also been involved companies with fewer than 25 employees.

The second major conclusion reached in this report is that, despite the apparent growth of BYOD, security of data and information in general, remains the major concern of businesses when implementing a strategy mobility. The responses from employees regarding this matter explain why security remains the “workhorse”.

Although 60% of users expressed their concern about cyber threats and especially against possible espionage and/or theft of information from their terminals, 92% of respondents confirmed that operated from their own devices so sensitive data from their works as issues of a personal nature and, nevertheless, not actively undertake protective measures for trust that is the company that takes care of this for them.

Thus, the low concern of many workers by these security issues can be a problem when we refer to small and medium enterprises, since 58% of them considered that the use of certain free solutions is sufficient to maintain the security of their data. And this despite the fact that the number of malware on mobile devices continues to grow: only in 2012 are a number of threats 25 times greater than all the previous six years was found.

On the opposite side, the big companies do take security seriously, aware of the serious damage that may involve theft or loss of sensitive information via a mobile device. All companies, regardless of their size, they decide to adopt a mobile strategy, should give priority to security issues, especially when in many cases, different companies share data that can be stolen by third parties.
