Mobility Initiatives, Priority for Companies

Business mobility solutions are a priority for more than 73% of companies in the United States, Canada and the Asia Pacific region (APAC). Thus, in 2018, budgets destined for mobility are expected to increase by 10% with respect to 2017.

According to the report, in the last 12-18 months, organizations have invested in different mobility solutions: 60.8% in the development of mobile applications; 44.6% in mobile and business security; 44.6% in mobile connectivity; 43.8% in mobile device management (MDM); and 36.2% in applications ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD).

According to Clearbridge Mobile, companies that achieved their business mobility goals generated new revenue sources 35% faster than companies that only focused on individual productivity needs.

Main Challenges of Business Mobility

The development of business mobility applications brings great benefits, but also involves a series of challenges that are facing and will be faced by organizations in the short and medium term. For example, it is necessary to improve the design of user experience, quality assurance or security oriented to mobile devices. In this last point, precisely, according to a TechValidate survey, 45% of companies mention security as one of their main challenges for the development of business mobile applications.

“Mobilizing” the Company: Recommendations to Move Forward

While enterprise mobile security can be a complex problem to address, there are several areas of focus that can lay the foundation for protecting sensitive data and systems. If a company is using a BYOD model, for example, a mobile device management (MDM) solution is essential, as these solutions create a test environment for enterprise applications, allow compliance requirements to be established, and data to be erased remotely, among others.

On the other hand, the companies that facilitate the devices have much more control over the employees that can access them and limit their use. In this sense, the ideal solution is to formalize the security strategy of business mobility applications at the beginning of their development, instead of proposing possible solutions in later stages.

In addition, it is easier to limit the types of devices in the company, something that cannot be controlled in consumer-oriented applications. This means that organizations can determine which devices and operating systems are compatible for employees to perform their tasks.
