Wearables industry is emerging as one of the key elements in the development of enterprise mobility for the future, as it offers new users everyday devices such as watches, glasses and bracelets, which are capable of transmitting information in a simple way.

The latest report published by tech consultancy  International Data Corporartion (IDC) on the quarterly evolution of the wearables market, estimates that in the second quarter of 2015, 18.1 million units were sold. An increase of 223.6% over the same period last year, when 5.1 million units were sold. These figures also consolidate the upward trend recorded earlier this year.

IDC especially highlights the arrival of the new Apple Watch in this market, which reached 3.6 million sold units during the second quarter. The consulting firm also noted the attention attracted by the entry of the brand founded by Steve Jobs in this segment, as well as the sales volume performed by its proposals.

Levels of BYOD programs adoption grow

Companies have been gradually becoming aware of the importance of mobility and about 80% of them currently includeds it among their priorities. In response to this trend, solutions such as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) gain acceptance and companies keep progressing in the introduction of measures to manage the use of personal mobile devices for business. It is increasingly common for workers wanting to choose the device they feel most comfortable and are more familiar with, as well as the applications and services that help them be more productive. A new scenario for mobility

The growing acceptance of wearables, far from being a product for a niche market, will help change today’s concept of mobility, which is marked by the use of smartphones. These devices provide new forms to access information, of interaction and 24 hours a day communication, opening the door to new work dynamics. However, they also pose new challenges, including safety as the main concern.

A report published by Trend Micro and conducted among 800 IT managers in Europe and the Middle East, reveals that 95% of respondents felt that wearable devices present a security risk. In this regard, 9 out of 10 respondents thought that their organizations’ IT or BYOD security policies must change.
