At present, companies of all sizes and sectors are integrating new technologies as an integral part of their strategies with the firm purpose of offering a better customer experience and thus boosting the business. However, this transformation has also begun to influence employees’ expectations of their workplace, thus starting the road to the digital office, which requires a comprehensive strategic approach within companies.
A recent report by the British firm CGI Group under the title “Digital Employee Experience” points out that major trends such as globalization, demographic changes or the continuous increase in competitiveness are pressuring companies not only to re -imagine their business models, but also to transform their workspaces in search of greater efficiency and productivity.
In this sense, four are the main benefits that organizations achieve when they implement a digital workspace are:
- Increased employee productivity, since more routine tasks can be automated, or at least accelerated, with the help of contextual information provided by tools that facilitate and optimize the decision-making process.
- Greater access to talent, thanks to new work styles such as remote work, collaborative work, and so on.
- Increased staff retention rate, as digital workspace conditions increase employee satisfaction and well-being.
- Increase in the capacity for innovation, because teamwork and collaborative allows sharing more and better practices.
However, despite the significant of these benefits, they are often seen as intangible, so many companies focus more on customer experience and operational efficiency, leaving aside the important employee experience.
As a result, initiatives that are somewhat incomplete are being undertaken, such as the BYOD trend, gamification, etc., which, while worthwhile and beneficial, being applied in isolation prevents all potential.
Thus, in order to undertake digital transformation and maximize its benefits, it is necessary to understand and assume, on the one hand, the fundamental role that workers have in order for the organization to achieve its objectives and, on the other hand, digital transformation takes place within the framework of a comprehensive and global strategic approach and not as isolated initiatives.
