Cloud technology is becoming increasingly popular among companies as a way to perform tasks more efficiently and profitably. A switchboard hosted in the cloud is one of those technologies that provide all the features of a traditional switchboard without the need to buy and store specific hardware in the facilities.
The demand for VoIP and PBXs hosted in the cloud is growing rapidly. A survey of small and medium-sized companies conducted by the telecommunications technology company VoIP Software Advice found that more than half of buyers (57%) were looking to invest in VoIP service for the first time. In addition, none of the small business owners wanted to buy an IP-based PBX. Of the respondents, 77% wanted a web-based solution, while the remaining 23% had no preference.
Research firm Infonetics also predicts continued growth of services hosted in the cloud as companies turn to alternatives to legacy PBXs. The firm highlighted the wide adoption of VoIP services hosted by small, medium and large companies.
An additional survey by Metaswitch Networks found that 54% of the market was interested in IP communications, with 63% considering buying a service in the next two years.
Demand For PBXs Hosted In The Cloud Grows
The implication of these reports is clear. Companies of all sizes are ready to make the transition from the legacy telephone systems on the site to VoIP and are looking for solutions in the cloud as the way to make the leap. A virtual PBX hosted in the cloud eliminates much of the expense and burden of managing the solution, which is ideal for organizations without large communications budgets and dedicated IT staff. It is not necessary to buy equipment, which means low or no capital costs. Instead, the cloud service provider manages the equipment, which means it is responsible for maintenance and updates. Companies simply have a monthly operating expense for voice and data.
The cloud-based configuration also separates hardware services for the customer, simplifying the scale of services for long-term growth and enabling a higher level of reliability. It can be implemented by itself. Likewise, the switchboard hosted in the cloud offers greater business continuity since the hardware of the telephone system resides in a secure external installation, protects it against damage and allows faster recovery from possible problems. As an additional benefit, services are updated periodically to keep them updated with new improvements and the elimination of local equipment means that the system never becomes obsolete.
The demand for PBXs hosted in the cloud will grow as more and more companies make the transition to this advanced technology.
