The integration of the new information and communication technologies in the organizational chart and the strategies of the companies have transformed both the way in which it works and the work space itself. It is a constant trend over the last few years that will continue to progress in the future. So much so, that it is now possible to perceive the future of the workspaces: trends, ideas and behaviors in the work environment of the year 2030.

According to the CBRE Workplace study “Fast Forward 2030: The Future of Work and the Workplace”, some of these perspectives are already clearly evident, while others will emerge gradually and quietly. In any case, it is clear that major changes are taking place globally; by the year 2030, work, culture, creativity will be more diverse, interconnected and integrated aspects.

But in the future of the workplace not only changes in the physical spaces of business happen, but it is the people who begin to reflect on the meaning that the work has in their lives, and how they can improve in happiness and quality on the basis of greater and better integration and mobility.

The future of workspaces

In this CBRE study, a total of 220 experts, business leaders and young people from Asia, Europe and North America share their views on how these trends will impact the evolution of both business and work practices, from which four great conclusions are deduced:

  1. The impact of artificial intelligence will transform companies and the way people work. So much so that half of today’s occupations will be replaced by new jobs that will require creative intelligence, social and emotional capabilities, and a capacity that allows them to take advantage of artificial intelligence. Those jobs, this report points out, will be immensely more satisfying than current jobs.
  1. Achieving happiness will be consolidated as a purpose as much or more important than financial success. And it is that the organizations no longer need only to be transparent and agile, but to be authentic in values and in their real contribution to the social good in order to attract the best talent.
  1. By the year 2030, most real estate transactions can be done online and in real time, which will allow a more efficient management and control of workspaces. The real estate market will gain dynamism, as many unused spaces will become part of the space available.
  1. Buildings will be much healthier environments and owners will focus more on the provision of improved services and experiences, and not just traditional leasing. The value of the building will shift from the value of the rent to the value and flow of the services.

Thus, the spaces of work and the tasks developed in them will continue to advance along the path of a profound transformation that is now being perceived.
